Soricelul Dominic (Dominic the mouse)

Hi! This song is about a mouse  disguised in a bee who tried to steal honey from a hive. But the bees are smart and discover the trick and punish Dominic to help them in the hive dressed like a bee. Children from 1st and 2nd grades like singing it. It's funny and educative.

Ó Rosa (PT)

Dear friends,

Another children's song from Portugal.
It tells us about Rosa, a girl who has a skirt and she turns from one side and to another to look at the skirt wheel.

Bulgarian "Halloween" or "Kukeri"

Dear, friends! I'd like to tell you about one of the most famous holiday in Bulgaria which is on January and February. This is Bulgarian "Halloween" or "Kukeri"/Mummers/:
Kukeri /Bulgarian: кукери/ is a traditional Bulgarian ritual to scare away evil spirits, with a costumed man performing the ritual. The costumes cover most of the body and include decorated wooden masks of animals (sometimes double-faced) and large bells attached to the belt. Around New Year and before Lent, the kukeri walk and dance through the village to scare evil spirits away with the costumes and the sound of the bells, as well as to provide a good harvest, health, and happiness to the village during the year.
The kukeri traditionally visit the peoples' houses at night so that "the sun would not catch them on the road." After going around the village they gather at the square to dance wildly and amuse the people. The ritual varies by region but its essence remains largely the same.
Kind regards, Reny

Madara Rider

This marvellous stone rider is near Madara Village, near the city of Shumen. Our friend Svetla is from it. I prepared for her and for all of us something interesting about this fantastic monument.
The medieval rock relief of Madara Rider is located in the northeastern part of Bulgaria, on the Madara Plateau, east from the city of Shumen, near the village of Madara.

The Madara Rider (Horseman) is a bas-relief dating back to the early middle ages and the only one of its kind in Europe. The sculptor carved the rock relief known as the Madara Horseman in the early 8 century, creating a majestic horse and a rider 23 m above ground level on an almost vertical cliff.
The horseman is thrusting a spear into a lion lying at his horse’s feet. A dog runs after the horse. This incredible rock carving is a wonderful sample of the middle age art in Bulgaria. The Horseman of Madara is a symbol of the majesty of the Bulgarian state while under the reign of the different khans.

A view from Sofia
A Legend about Sofia

Once upon a time there was a king who had a beautiful daughter. She was bright, gentle and good girl and he loved her more than everything in the world. One day the princess got ill. All doctors and medicine-men in the country were called to help her but she felt worse every day. None of them could do anything for her as nobody knew what she really had. The girl was dying in front of the eyes of her father and the old king felt very unhappy seeing that he was losing her. So he sent horsemen in all directions of the Earth to search for someone who would cure the princess. The time was passing and many foreign medicine-men, doctors and herbalists coming from all edges of the world took turn in trying to give the girl a remedy. And when nobody believed she would live, an old stranger stood at the king and told him to send her to a little town, far from there, just to live in it for some time. The desperate father immediately told the servants to prepare the princess and the other day sent her with a small group of loyal courtiers to that unknown place. It was a small stone-built town in the foot of a beautiful mountain with nice and tranquil inhabitants. They loved the foreign princess and took care of her like if she was their own child. She soon felt better breathing the fresh air and drinking the clear water. She fell in love with those kind people and their wonderful town, Serdika. She decided to stay living there. As she was so nice and tender all her life that people loved her and kept her in their minds forever. After her death they built a church in her memory and named it after her name, St. Sofia. Later they even started to call their town with it.
